The yellow brick road
How do you feel about going on a quest?
For me the idea of a quest awakens my imagination and inner child…
My inner child is thrilled with the idea of the unknown, filled with curiosity, excitement, freedom, and bravery…
My imagination expands into multiple directions..who and what will I encounter meet along the way? what and who will show up? what will I discover?
My body wonders what sensations will i experience…
My heart filled with wonder and awe…
I cannot help but think of Alice in Wonderland and the Yellow Brick Road, and all the interesting fellow travelers she met along the way.
We all have a different perspective and idea about quests. And that is great. Upon asking a very good friend how he feels about questing, he said he loves it, but his mind keeps him from going all out for it. We came to the conclusion that his ‘cleverness’ keeps him from harnessing the delight of a quest.
So how can I reclaim this wildness and bewilderness in the this world where we think we are so sophisticated, but are sadly domesticated, I asked myself.
That took me on a journey to the word/concept questing itself, discovering something I was not aware of…
Questing…the verb… thus some kind of action, which can be both an inner and outer journey…
Quest…the noun…
Question… which has quest as a base, wanting to know something, thus curiosity
Then comes the surprise I did not expect…
Esting…. I didn’t know there was such an expression, and discovered it in the urban dictionary… and it brought a completely unexpected spin on this exploration into the concept ‘questing’…according to the urban dictionary it is used, ( i would not dare say it means) when someone copy us or when someone is a ‘dick head’ about a scenario or situation…
On further investigation, i discover there is an Esting Railway Station in the municipality of Olching, Bavaria, Germany…
And immediately my imagination wonders what this place looks like, what the people are like, etcetera, etcetera…it takes quite a bit of self-regulating not to jump to the images tab on Google to explore further….as then it will be no surprise if a quest takes me to this interesting place…Besides, seeing a picture of something is not the same as a direct, personal physical experience… i want all my senses to experience this place, not only sight…
And these wise words trigger something within me…
“When the path ignites a soul,
there’s no remaining in place.
The foot touches ground,
but not for long.”
~ Hakim Sanai
And I am curious… How do you feel about quests?
